I make music and websites. I am excellent at neither.

Gary Gonzalez New songs

Take a listen to the first three tracks on the Myspace, recorded yours truly at my house. These three are going on a split with Geraldo! whenever they finally get their stuff together.

Both bands were recorded at my house. Should be a pretty fun disc.

“Banana Gun”

Started this a while ago. Sort of finished it the other day. It’s a weak ending, but I like the rest of it. Plus, I got to overuse my new Pro VLA II.

I’ll post the corresponding Live set soon.
Take it away, Creative Commons…

EDIT

The samples in the live set (most notably the drum machines) are too large to zip up and put here for download. Let me know if you really really want it and we’ll work something out.

Some quick plugs

Last night I played an awesome show with three great bands that I recommend to anyone who will take a recommendation.

It was a lot of fun. Real Live Tigers and Brown Bird are on tour and Felix joined us from New Orleans.

In other news, it looks like I’m doing recording work for the Gary Gonzalez / Geraldo! split that they’ve been planning/putting off since forever ago. I’ll probably post samples when we finish.

Ghoslty Swim

This is an awesome free album put out by Ghostly International and Adult Swim. Lots of good electronic music on here, and it features a live mix by Tycho.

I think my favorite track is Light Powered by Daestro, but I’m only about one and a half listens in.

The whole album seems terribly squashed, but it’s probably appropriate for the style.

John Locke Syndrome Live Set

Original song is here

This is an Ableton Live Pack (.alp) for use with Ableton Live. I created the set with Live 7 and I’m not sure if it’s backwards compatible. The set file should be, but I do make heavy use of some of the new features of 7:

  • Gate Sidechaining
  • Sampler1
  • Drum Rack (awesome!)
  • Analog (analog subtractive synth)
  • Compressor2

There are a few instances of Operator, too. I’m sure you can find viable alternatives3 to these.

I’m also using a couple (free) third-party plugins:

I’m having fun with my new copy of Live 7. I think it was definitely worth the student discounted price I paid for it, and I will surely use it for educational purposes only.

1 I think this was introduced in Live 6, but I believe it got some tweaks for the new version.

2 This replaces Compressor I and Compressor II from earlier versions and is way better.

3 Might I point you to studiotoolz?
